Socio-Technical Grounded Theory for Software Engineering
نویسندگان
چکیده
Grounded Theory (GT), a sociological research method designed to study social phenomena, is increasingly being used investigate the human and aspects of software engineering (SE). However, written by for sociologists, GT often challenging majority SE researchers understand apply. Additionally, attempting ad hoc adaptations traditional guidelines modern socio-technical (ST) contexts struggle in absence clear relevant do so, resulting poor quality studies. To overcome these community challenges leverage opportunities, this paper presents Socio-Technical Theory (STGT) ease application achieve outcomes. It defines what exactly meant an ST context STGT that expand GT's philosophical foundations, provide increased clarity flexibility its methodological steps procedures, define possible scope application, encourage frequent reporting variety interim, preliminary, mature outcomes, introduce nuanced evaluation different hoped related disciplines such as computer science, data artificial intelligence, information systems, computer/robot/AI interaction, human-centered emerging technologies (and other transformed rapid digitalisation AI-based augmentation), will benefit from applying conduct studies systematically produce rich findings theories with confidence.

متن کاملGrounded theory methodology for knowledge engineering
Grounded theory methods of inductive qualitative field research have been tried and tested in the social sciences with their strong commitment to empirical techniques. They can be used in knowledge engineering for grounding systems on empirical evidence wherever the domain experts’ natural way of thinking is qualitative. After an introductory explanation of grounded theory development we go thr...
متن کاملSoftware Market Configuration: A Socio-Technical Explanation
In the case presented herein, two three-dimensional rendering software products coexist without competing, though they present similar characteristics and rely on competitive technological architectures. The market configuration for these two software products thus appears largely determined by socio-technical elements, not just the technical characteristics of the software architecture. The so...

1 The knowledge and experience gained through the academic and professional training of engineers and technicians in the human aspects of their disciplines-or the lack of it-have their influence through the roles they may occupy in three main fields of professional activity: the design of equipment and products, the design of manufacturing systems and the operational management of work systems....
متن کاملHolistic Security Requirements Engineering for Socio-Technical Systems
Security has been a growing concern for large organizations, especially financial and governmental institutions, as security breaches in the systems they depend have repeatedly resulted in losses of billions per year, and this cost is on the rise. A primary reason for these breaches is the “socio-technical” nature of today’s systems that consist of an amalgam of social and human actors, process...
